Description:

Assistant Dean for Communication and Public Affairs reports directly to the Dean and CEO (the Dean), and collaborates with associate deans in developing and implementing institutional strategies. The ADCPA is a chief advisor to the Dean, spearheads the Dean’s strategic initiatives, manages public issues that require the Dean’s attention, and facilitates inter-departmental communications to execute NU-Q’s core mission. A member of the senior leadership team, the ADCPA represents the Dean as designated with leaders at Northwestern University, Qatar Foundation partner institutions, and external constituencies. The ADCPA coordinates with the Office of Global Marketing and Communications in Evanston to ensure NU-Q is properly reflected in University storytelling, and that appropriate institutional messages are shared with the NU-Q community.
 

  • Serve as senior advisor to the Dean on internal and external communications.
  • Serve on the Dean’s Senior Leadership Council, and collaborate with other leaders in the Dean’s office
  • Spearhead communications on the Dean’s strategic initiatives, manage project flows, drive strategic decision-making, facilitate resolution of matters requiring the Dean’s attention, monitor progress and ensure results.
  • Ensure the Dean is well-prepared for meetings with external stakeholders, including media, diplomatic, philanthropic, and government leaders
  • Exercise high levels of sound judgment, responsibility, authority and discretion in designing and implementing internal and externa communications.
  • Develop and maintain a depth of institutional knowledge about a breadth of communication and public affairs issues and provide the highest level of analysis and counsel to the Dean.
  • Lead strategically, proactively, and systematically to advance NU-Q’s reputation as a leading and distinctive US institution in the Arab World.
  • Be a leading and thoughtful institutional advocate of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at NU-Q.
     

Minimum Qualifications
 

  • Outstanding collaborative leadership style inspiring confidence, sound judgment, maturity, and sensitivity, and fostering stakeholder engagement.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and creativity.
  • A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of media or journalism, communications, marketing, external relations, and public affairs.
  • Experience working in diverse educational, research, non-profit, or media institutions with a global component.
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and grasp of their complex articulations at a global institution like NU-Q
  • Commitment to teamwork and to a transparent institutional culture
